Completing High Speed Rail From Boston To NYC

CONNECTING THE DOTS & COMPLETING THE NETWORK

Building out High Speed Rail would achieve speeds of 175-225 mph on the railway from Manhattan to Boston.

The work includes a spine from Manhattan to Port Jefferson and a tunnel under Long Island Sound to Milford, CT, bringing Long Island into the heart of the Northeast Rail corridor. The second part connects Hartford, CT to Providence, RI via a new right of way in Eastern Connecticut and Western Rhode Island.

Together these improvements create one seat 90-100 minute train ride between Manhattan and Boston.

  • New line from NYC to Ronkonkoma, Long Island

  • Tunnel under Long Island Sound through New Haven to Hartford, CT

  • New line from Hartford, CT to Providence, RI (½ hour travel time)

  • Further upgrades to existing Northeast Corridor line from Providence, RI to Boston, MA for high-speed service

  • North-South Rail Link in Boston, MA, eliminating the need to transfer stations within the city to continue north or south

  • Upgrades to the Downeaster from Boston to Brunswick, ME, including electrification, high level platforms, and hourly service

  • Providence, RI to Worcester, MA via Woonsocket, RI
